Jake Tanis

Technical Writer | Documentation Engineer

I value presenting information in a clear and attainable manner. It is a joy for me to teach others the information needed for them to do their job well. In my experience, this has looked like making Confluence posts that guide my fellow teammates to download software that is difficult to install. Or, meeting up with software engineers to show them how they can configure MadCap Flare projects so that they can write a software manual themselves. There has also been a numerous amount of times where I get to help other techncial writers resolve source-control issues and relieve them from the burden of wondering whether they lost progress on their projects.

I build user-facing, software documentation for both SaaS software companies and hardware companies. I develop scripts to prevent implementation issues and increase productivity for documentation workflows. I am skilled in a variety of documentation tools and processes such as docs-as-code, MadCap Flare, Markdown, API documentation, HTML5 help systems, CSS, and HTML. I am also comfortable working with programming tools such as Flask, Python, Postman, cURL, Powershell, Git, SVN, IIS, Azure, and Cursor.

Whether it's through writing or creating tools, I seek to serve others in the realm of technology.
